I’m a Senior, What Should I Do In November?

5 Easy Tips For The Class of 2018 To Get Ahead In Recruiting – November

1. Stop panicking.  We are still very early in the recruiting process.  Less that 5% of the class of 2018 (K/P) have made college commitments.  Less than 10% of the class of 2018 (K/P) have been offered any sort of college opportunity.  Note, there are many waves of recruiting.  Recruiting will last all the way through August when fall camps officially begin for the upcoming college football season.

2. Take unofficial visits as often as possible.  An unofficial visit simply mean that you have to pay for the visit yourself.   Getting on campus is the best way to show a college football program genuine interest.  Sending emails, making phone calls, direct messaging on social media, etc. simply isn’t enough anymore.  A coach will know that you have a real interest once you make the effort to get on campus.

3. Start to narrow down your search to universities and colleges that are realistic options.  This includes level of football (FBS, FCS, D2, D3, NAII, JC, etc.), level of academics, region of the country, etc.  Stop targeting D1 football programs if you are not a D1 recruit.  Stop targeting high academic institutions if you have a 2.0 GPA.  Find schools that will reciprocate interest in you and opportunities will follow.

READ THIS BLOG ON HOW SCHOOLS RECRUIT

4. Ask for an opportunity, not a scholarship.  Every college coach in America knows that you would like to be offered a scholarship.  When you ask for a scholarship, this turns them off.  You are basically limiting communication opportunity.  When you ask for an opportunity to be on the team, coaches will be receptive.  You are opening a door for communication.  The goal in recruiting is to create options.  Offers of any kind, create buzz, which create more options.  Scholarship vs. Preferred Walk On offers will take care of itself in the end.

5. Get ready for XXXI (January 13-15, 2018).  The biggest mistake made these days is thinking that recruiting for seniors is already over by this time.  In fact, it is the exact opposite.  90% of Kickers / Punters in this class will be recruited heavily during this time of year.  It will be feeding frenzy.  National Letter of Intent Day (NLI) is in early February.  Vegas takes place this time of year for this reason.  College coaches pay a tremendous amount of attention to the Vegas results and post Vegas rankings.  Scholarships offers and preferred walk on opportunities will be won this weekend in Vegas.

TODAY is Long Snapper Appreciation Day! Contest is on!

Today we celebrate the first ever Long Snapper Appreciation Day.  It is time that we all give credit to the unsung heroes of the football team, our long snappers.  Be sure to post your contest entries today showing your appreciation for your long snapper or for long snappers in general.  Read the ENTRY RULES HERE.

I was fortunate to have one of the best long snappers of all time…. Chris Rubio.  Our relationship began many years ago.  Here is a look back and a look forward at a relationship that is about much more than just football.  Enjoy this timeline….

August, 1995: Rubio and I met at UCLA during Fall Camp of my true freshman season.  Rubio was beginning his third season at UCLA.

September, 1995: Rubio and I both started in our first college game together against Miami in the Rose Bowl.  Rubio was a redshirt sophomore.  I was a true freshman.

1995/1996: Rubio snapped to his first All-American Kicker Bjorn Merten.

1997: In my first year starting as both a kicker and punter, Rubio’s snapping and calming influence was the key to my All-American season as both a kicker and punter.  As a team (Sailer/Rubio) we were the first ever to be named All-American in two positions in one year.

Take a look HERE

1997-2003: Rubio and I remained great friends off the field without football.

January, 2003: Rubio came to Vegas to assist me with the first ever Vegas National Event.  He helped me coach a dozen long snappers.

February, 2003: Rubio became a part of Chris Sailer Kicking and began coaching long snappers.  A part time job eventually became a full time job and Rubio Long Snapping was born.

2003-2017: Rubio Long Snapping & Chris Sailer Kicking became the #1 Specialist brand in the World! Combined we train, mentor and evaluate thousands of athletes per year.

2017-Future: Expect greatness.

What most people do not know is that the success Rubio and I have enjoyed on the field and in the specialist business is driven by a special friendship off the field.  We have been best friends since we first met in 1995.  From single young men in college….. to now married 40 year olds with a combined 7 children and dominant business together, we have grown up together every step up of the way.  We have a mutual respect, trust and love for one another that is unparalleled.

I would not be where I am today and I would not be the man that I am today without Chris Rubio.  Rubio, thank you for being my Long Snapper.  Rubio thank you for being my business partner.  Rubio, thank you for being my friend.  Happy Long Snapper Appreciation Day!

Specialists from 8 states trained and competed on a beautiful day with near perfect conditions.  Take a look at the results.

Overall Camp Champion
Leo Cunningham (2019, WA) – Leo is a solid junior kicking prospect.  He is an accurate field goal kicker with nice range.  On this day he won a major field goal competition by nailing 6-8 field goals with a long of 51.  He also came through in the head to head finals by hitting from 45 yards out.  Leo should compete very well in Las Vegas this coming January.

Field Goal Champion / Kickoff Champion
Kyle Sentkowski (JC / CA) – Kyle was by far the most dominant kicker at camp.  He was smooth and accurate on field goals all day long.  He gets great height on his ball and has 55+ yard range.  His kickoffs are strong.  He averaged 65+ yards, with 4.0+ hang time.  He was also impressive punting the football.  He is an experienced player that is going to be a great addition to a 4-year college program.

Punt Champion
Hoyoung Sohn (2018, OR) – Hoyoung is an impressive all around specialist.  He has an explosive leg and kicks with great confidence.  He has 50+ yard range on field goals.  His drives his kickoffs into the endzone.  And he is a capable punter.  On this day, he won the punt competition by staying consistent and showing he can hit a big ball at times.  Hoyoung is a strong senior prospect that has all the tools to compete at the next level.  Look for him to do very well in Las Vegas in January.
