2017 Chris Sailer Kicking NJ Fall Camp Recap, Larry Holdcraft Wins It!

The 2017 Chris Sailer Kicking Fall Camp Tour is off to a fantastic start. The first camp took play Sunday, October 2nd in Newark, NJ. Specialists from over 10 states were in attendance. Overall this was the most talent we have seen at one camp on the east coast. Take a look at the results.

Overall Camp Champion
Larry Holdcraft (2018, NJ) Larry did a phenomenal job for his first camp with Chris Sailer Kicking. He is a naturally gifted athlete with great upside. He won a major field goal competition by going 7-7 on field goals with a long of 54. He then won the head to head finals round by hitting multiple of field goals of 50+ yards. He is smooth and accurate off the ground. Larry also does a nice job on kickoffs and shows some potential as a punter.

Field Goal Champion
Zach Hoban (2019, NJ) Zach proved that he is a top 2019 national prospect at this camp. The long time Chris Sailer Kicking has made significant strides and is kicking with huge confidence. He won the field goal competition by nailing 7 straight field goals with a long of 55 yards. He also did extremely well on kickoffs. He has an explosive leg and displays D1 ability. Look for Zach to challenge for a TOP 12 spot this coming January in Las Vegas.

Kickoff Champion
Aidan Mulreed (2018, NJ) Aidan had an impressive camp from start to finish. He is one of the most improved kickers we have seen recently in the Class of 2018. He won the kickoff competition by hitting multiple ball 70 yards with 3.80 – 4.05 hang time. He was also strong on field goals off the ground and was a finalist in the punt competition. Aidan is a confident young man that is going to do great things at the college level.

Punt Champion
Perry Shelbred (2018, NY) Perry is one of the best combo players in the country. He is a great athlete that kicks and punts with excellent technique and consistency. On this day he won the punt competition by averaging 40+ yards with 4.2+ hang time. He also showed the ability to hit 45+ yard punts with 4.5+ hang time. Perry also performed very well on both field goal and kickoff. The long time Chris Sailer Kicking student is going to make a fine addition to a college football program.

5 October Recruiting Tips For All Kickers/Punters

1. Enjoy getting used to high school.

2. Attend private, group and virtual lessons. Perfect your technique.

3. Attend a 1-Day Chris Sailer Kicking Fall Camp in your area.

4. Sign up for Vegas XXXI, the experience will pay off tenfold.

5. Breathe, relax and understand that your simply learning how to one day be recruited.

Sophomores:

1. Enjoy your sophomore season. It won’t be long and you will be an upperclassmen.

2. Attend private, group and virtual lessons. Perfect your technique.

3. Attend a 1-Day Chris Sailer Kicking Fall Camp in your area.

4. Sign up for Vegas XXXI, the experience will pay off tenfold.

5. Breathe, relax and understand that your simply learning how to one day be recruited.

Juniors:

1. Dominate the remaining part of your junior season. It doesn’t matter if you are having a great season to date, or currently struggling for one reason or another. Stay focused or regather your focus and put your best foot forward from here are on out. Yes, college coaches are watching.

2. Take unofficial visits. Get on campus. Get your name and face in front of college coaches. Take trips to D1, D2, D3, NAIA, JC programs. Take trips to the east, the west, the south, the north. Be realistic with your choices and it will pay off. Genuine interest during the season is worth way more than mass emails. Call the football office and speak with a secretary to set up unofficial visits. Simply say that you are a recruit. It is VERY smart to plan these trips on a weekend when Chris Sailer Kicking is in town (see tip #4). Attend the game on Saturday. Attend the Chris Sailer Kicking camp on Sunday.

3. Attend private, group and virtual lessons. Perfect your technique. Don’t ever think that you are to old or experienced to get better. Believe me, you will get a major wake up call once you step foot on college campus. Dominate through perfecting your technique.

4. Attend 1-Day Chris Sailer Kicking Fall Camps across the country. Exposure is necessary. Attend in your region, but also attend outside of your region (see tip #2). If you want to play college football, you have to put in the effort.

5. Sign up for Vegas XXXI. It is finally your time to compete for TOP 12. Who has made TOP 12 before you? Here are a few names: Justin Tucker (Ravens), Blair Walsh (Seahawks), Ryan Succop (Titans), Dan Bailey (Cowboys), Bryan Anger (Buccaneers), Jeff Locke (Lions), Brad Nortman (Jaguars), Bradley Pinion (49ers), Colton Schmidt (Bills), Ryan Allen (Patriots), Tress Way (Redskins), Cody Parkey (Dolphins), Kai Forbath (Vikings), Ka’imi Fairbairn (Texans), Drew Kaser (Chargers), Randy Bullock (Bengals), Dustin Hopkins (Redskins)…. just to name a few. And it goes well beyond making TOP 12. The experience, the connections, the friendships, the exposure, etc. There will never be a camp more important than this.

Seniors:

This is still the most important time in recruiting for the senior class. National Letter of Intent signing day is in early February. Over 95% of the senior class is NOT committed and have not received any sort of college offer. Breathe, relax and get your mind focused on getting the exposure necessary at the most important time of your career. Every college coach in America will be waiting on these results. Scholarships and preferred walk on opportunities will be decided in Las Vegas.

*** Note to those lucky few that are committed (Yes, I am talking to the TOP 12 from last year). The NFL Stars listed in tip #5 for juniors all attended this event as seniors as well. They didn’t rest. They continued to be hungry and dominate. That is why they are stars. The list of  TOP 12 K/P’s that decided to rest because they were already committed is much longer. And close to 0% of them made it to the NFL.

National Long Snapper Appreciation Day / Chris Sailer Kicking Contest

Chris Sailer Kicking introduces National Long Snapper Appreciation Day. Long Snappers are often the most under appreciated football players on the field. The saying goes, “You never know the long snappers name, unless they mess up” and “If you are a long snapper, it is your hope that the announcer never mentions your name. That just means you are doing your job well.”

I can tell you from first hand experience that a long snapper directly effects the success of kicker. In 1997, I earned All-American honors as both a kicker and punter while at UCLA. I never saw a bad snap and in fact never saw the laces of the football that year. My long snapper, yep you called it, was Chris Rubio. Our operation was flawless all year and making kicks became easy with that immense confidence that my long snapper would be perfect for me every time. Rubio never did get his All-American plaque that year. He also didn’t get to travel with me to Orlando, FL to be a part of the Home Depot ESPN Awards Show.

So…. after all these years, I have decided that it is time to thank my long snapper with the National Long Snapper Appreciation Day. I am inviting the Chris Sailer Kicking family to join me to celebrate our unsung heroes on November 1st starting in 2017 and continuing on each year from here on out.
