What is the Award?
The Award will be presented on an annual basis to the best national high school Placekicker for that given season.Who Is Eligible?
Every athlete that plays high school football at the varsity level, regardless of state division, or age. You DO NOT have to attend a Chris Sailer Kicking camp to win this award.How Do You Win?
Put up the best statistics for that give season. This includes: Field Goals made, Field Goal percentage, Field Goal long, distances of all Field Goals made, Extra Points made, Extra Point percentage, game winning Field Goals made. The Chris Sailer Award selection committee will vote for the winner.

How Does the Voting Take Place?
The Chris Sailer Award Selection Committee will vote for the winner. The Committee will include: Chris Sailer, past and current NFL kickers, past and current NCAA kickers, past finalists for the Chris Sailer Award, and Sports writers and columnists.

When?
August: A Watch List of 15 Placekickers will be announced each year before the high school football season begins. The players on the Watch List were selected based on statistics from the previous season and upcoming season expectations. The eventual winner does NOT have to be on the Watch List to win the awards.

November: Ten Semi-Finalists are announced. The Semi-Finalists will be determined by committee selection.

December: The Three Finalists are announced. The Finalists will be determined by total votes. 3 points (1st Place Vote), 2 points (2nd Place Vote), 1 Point (3rd Place Vote). In the case of a tie, Chris Sailer will break the tie with his vote.

January: The winner will be announced at the JW Marriott Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. The winner will be determined by total votes. 3 points (1st Place Vote), 2 points (2nd Place Vote), 1 Point (3rd Place Vote). In the case of a tie, Chris Sailer will break the tie with his vote.

The Chris Sailer Award National Leader Board will be updated weekly with current stats as we get them in. Track how you are doing against your competition.

Dear Coach, Your Kicker Is Like a Pitcher!

The most common question/concern that I have heard so far this season is regarding the number of repetitions a kicker/punter should take per day and how this relates to injury.  After 16 years of coaching and mentoring kickers and punters on all levels across the world, I have learned how important it is to TRAIN SMART!

Dear Coach,

Your kicker/punter is just like your starting pitcher in baseball.  There is a reason why pitchers only get called on to start every 4 to 5 days.  There is a reason why a pitcher is on a pitch count and is monitored very closely each time they do make a start.  Keeping a pitcher strong, effective and most importantly healthy is the key to success.  If a pitcher takes the mound on short rest, odds are they will not be on their “A” game and generally get hammered by their opposition. A prime example is Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He has been the best pitcher in baseball over the past several years (NL MVP in 2014). Yet, he has failed miserably versus the St. Louis Cardinals each of the past two seasons in the playoffs.  Both years the Dodgers have asked him to start on short rest during the most important time of the season.  The results were not pretty.  A pitcher simply cannot perform to the best of their abilities without the proper rest.

Not only can a pitcher not perform to the best of their abilities on short rest, but a pitcher is also very susceptible to injury without the proper rest (shoulder, elbow, etc.)  Ever heard of “Tommy John” surgery? Pitchers only have so many pitches in the tank.  Once that tank runs dry, they become injury prone.  Pitching is a repetitive motion.  The body can only handle so much wear and tear.  Yes, conditioning and proper stretching can prevent injury, but only to a certain extent.  At some point in time, as a pitcher’s career goes along, a shoulder, elbow, bicep injury/surgery is inevitable. It is a managers and training staff’s job to keep their pitchers healthy and prolong their career.  Championships depend on it.
A kicker/punter is just like a starting pitcher in baseball.  The ability to be effective come Game 1 is a direct reflection of the off-season and camp training leading up to that game.  The ability to be effective in the 8th, 9th, 10th games of the season and into the playoffs is a direct reflection of the game week training leading up to those games.  The number of days you kick/punt per week and the number of reps you kick/punt per day must be monitored.  It is important that a kicker/punter is fresh and healthy at the start of Game 1.  It is important that a kicker/punter is fresh and healthy at the end of Game 1 during the most crucial stage of the game.  Is is important that a kicker/punter is fresh and healthy accordingly at the start and end of every game during the season.  It is important that a kicker/punter is fresh and healthy for next year, and the year after, and the year after, etc.

Advice for youth, high school, college & professional coaches:

– Kickers/Punters should kick/punt 3-4 days in the off-season (every other day)

– Kickers/Punters should NEVER kick twice per day (double days)

– All Kicking/Punting should be done during ONE time period during practice (preference is at the beginning of practice).  Do not have your kicker warm up, sit down, warm up, sit down etc. (Think of Clayton Kershaw coming back in the game in relief in the 9th inning after starting the game and pitching the first 6 innings)

– Kickers/Punters should always be on a kick/punt count each day they kick/punt (each kicker/punter is different, quality over quantity)

– Kickers/Punters should never kick/punt the day before a game

Advice for Kickers/Punters:

– Train Smart (Stretch, Warm Up, Muscle Memory Drills, know your Kick/Punt Count,  Film Study)

– Quality over Quantity

THE BIGGEST MISTAKE THAT COACHES MAKE!!!

“The rest of the team is out here practicing for 3 hours, so you should to.  Don’t be lazy.  Go kick/punt on your own.”

*Solution: After going through the team special teams period, Kickers/Punters should spend that extra time working on muscle memory drills (form drills) & watching film of themselves. Kickers/Punters should be filmed for instructional purposes every practice. Allow your kickers and punters to go watch film during practice to perfect their skill.

Kickers/Punters are crucial to the success of a football team.  Special Teams is 1/3 of a football game.  If coaches and Kickers/Punters work together the odds of winning a championship are that much better!  Coaches, follow this advice and you will have a healthy and effective Kicker/Punter for years to come.

Connor Culp Commits to LSU!

Chris Sailer Kicking “TOP 12” Kicker Connor Culp (2016, AZ) has committed on full scholarship to LSU!  Hard work, exposure and dominating performances have paid off once again.  Connor is well deserving of this offer and will be a great player in the SEC.

We met Connor at the Vegas XXV Prep Camp in January of 2015. He quickly made a name for himself.  A week later in Las Vegas, he was named to the most elite group of kickers, The “TOP 12”.  He is now the #4 ranked kicker in the United States. Here is a look at his accomplishments so far this year.

GA & CA Recap! Pineiro and Marquez are Champions….

The Chris Sailer Kicking Summer Tour is now complete. The final 2 stops were made in Atlanta, GA and Los Angeles, CA.  Over 300 athletes attended these two events.  The talent level was off the charts.  Take a look at the results.

ATLANTA, GA

Overall Camp Champion:
Eddy Pineiro (JC) – The Alabama commit was dominating once again in Atlanta. He has one of the strongest legs that I have ever seen.  He also competes extremely well under pressure and backs down to no situation.  On this day he connected on multiple 60+ yard field goals.  He also averaged approximately 80 yards per kickoff with 4.2 plus hang time.  His best ball was 85 yards with 4.44 second hang time.  A talent like this doesn’t come along often.

Field Goal Champion:
Santiago Arango (JC) – Santiago is an outstanding kicker.  He hits a very consistent ball off the ground and gets great height on his ball.  He hit a huge 54 yard field goal to win this competition. His kickoffs are also solid.  Santiago has the tools to be a top national junior college prospect this coming season.

Field Goal Champion:
Will Horton (2017) – Will had an amazing day performance from start to finish.  The young combo prospect showed well in all three areas of the kicking game.  He won the field goal competition by hitting consecutive field goals of 35, 42, 47, 52, 54 and 55 yards.  His kickoffs are 65 plus yards, with 4.00 plus hang time.  He also shows great punting talent.  Look for this name the next few years, he could be a great prospect.

Punt Champion:
Aidan Daily (JC) – Aidan competed at the TX, NC, GA and CA camps.  The Vegas XXVI punt champion and Event Elite Member had his best performance in Atlanta.  At one point he was able to hit 14 straight punts with over 4.4 second hang time.  He also hit many 50 plus yard punts with 5.0 second hang time.  Aidan is ready to have a breakout season at the junior college level this year.

Top Class of 2016 Prospect:
Jake Verity  – Jake is one of the top combo (K/P) prospects in the nation.  His field goals, kickoffs and punts are all equally impressive.  He has 55 plus yard range off the ground on field goals. Kickoffs are 70 plus yards with 4.1 plus second hang time.  Punts are 45 plus yards with 4.6 plus second hang time. He is consistent and can also hit the huge ball.  OFFER NOW!!!

Other Class of 2016 Standouts:  Luke Logan, Brad Wall, Caleb Grant, Christian Underwood, Daryian Basco, David Saldana, Pierce Royster, Hayden Terral, Jonathan Messina, Noah Gilbert, Phillip Shure, Samuel Sloman, Tyler Grimes, Nicholas Jones, Devin Orr, Dylan Hoglen.

Top Class of 2017 Prospect:
Tucker Day – Tucker has as much overall talent as anyone in the country.  Punting is his current major strength.  Once again he showed that he was able to hit punts 50 plus yards with 5.0 plus second hang time.  His field goals and kickoffs are also strong.  Tucker is a great athlete that will be a scholarship pick!

Other Class of 2017 Standouts: Jackson McLarty, Jake Lane, Josh Edwards, Nick Rice, Brooks Buce.

Top Class of 2018 Prospect:
Jake Camarda – Jake continues to elevate his game each time that we see him.  The current #1 kicker and #1 punter in the nation in his class proved it once again.  Quote from a staff member, “Jake is in the class of 2018?  This whole day I figured he was a senior.  That’s amazing.  He is in a league of his own”.  Enough said.

Other Class of 2018 Standouts: Bryce Horton, Bryce Jones, Chad Miller, Drew Byus, Eric Hildebrand, Evan McPherson, Jarrett Mills, Micah Gilbert, Sean Henderson.

Overall Camp Champion:
Diego Marquez (JC) – The longtime Chris Sailer Kicking student continued his dominating run.  He won the kickoff competition by hitting 82 yard, 4.18 yard ball.  He won the head to head field goal finals round by connecting of field goals of 50, 52, 52, 52, 55 and 58 yards. Diego is ready for D1 football.  OFFER NOW!!!

Field Goal Champion:
Nathan Hierlihy (JC) – Nathan is a big time kicking prospect.  He won the field goal competition by hitting 8 straight field goals including 3 straight from 50 plus yards.  The final competition winning kick came from 58 yards out.  His kickoffs are also very strong.  Nathan is going to be a special college player.

Punt Champion:
Kyle Thompson (2016) – Kyle is an outstanding punting prospect.  The 6’4” athlete is punting with more confidence than ever before.  He bested many of the nations top punters in Los Angeles by consistently hitting big ball after big ball.  Kyle averages 40 plus yards with 4.8 second hang time and shows that he can easily hit 55 yard punts with 5.1 plus second hang time punts.  Kyle is ready for D1.  OFFER NOW!!!

Top Class of 2016 Prospect:
Brandon Gracia (JC) – Brandon is one of, if not the top junior college kicking prospect in America.  His field goals are outstanding off the ground.  His kickoffs are ready for D1 right now.  He also kicks with great confidence and does well under pressure.  He is ready. OFFER NOW!!!

NC Summer Camp Recap – Austin Kent Dominates!

The Chris Sailer Kicking Summer Tour continued with a stop in Charlotte, NC on July 25th.  Once again well over 100 specialists traveled in from 20 plus states.  Many newcomers were in attendance, but after all was said and done, the Chris Sailer Kicking veterans ended up dominating.  Take a look at the results.

Overall Camp Champion:
Austin Kent (2016) – Austin is really starting to hit his stride.  He dominated FBU Top Gun last weekend and once again came out on fire in Charlotte. On this day he won the punt champion and head to head overall finals.  Austin easily averages 40 plus yards and 4.6 plus second hang time.  He regularly hits balls 55 plus yards with over 5.0 second hang time.  He is also a tremendous kickoff specialist.  A P/KO combo player that has set himself up to earn a scholarship in the near future.  OFFER NOW!!!

Field Goal Champion:
Seth Kujawski (2016) – Seth is an outstanding all around prospect. He excels in all areas of the game.  Field goals are strong off the ground.  He consistently hits from 50 plus yards.  His kickoffs are college ready.  And his strength is his punting.  As a punter he averages over 45 yards with 4.4 plus second hang time.  He has all the tools to compete at the D1 level.  OFFER NOW!!!

Field Goal Champion:
Connor Demaine (2017) – Connor is a very good kicker that shows great future potential. He has a great leg and shows flashes of what is his capable.  He connected on field goals of up to 55 yards.  He can also crush kickoffs at times.  He also steps up when it counts the most. With hard work on his technique and consistency, he could be special.

Kickoff Champion:
Brennan Lambert (2016) – Brennan had an exceptional day from start to finish.  He consistently nailed field goals from 55 yards off the ground.  His kickoffs were impressive.  His winning kick traveled 75 yards with 4.03 second hang time.  Brennan is a great talent that will impress college coaches this season.

Top Class of 2016 Prospect:
Marshall Long – Marshall was recently selected to participate in the 2016 U.S. Army All-American Game by Chris Sailer Kicking. He continued his dominating run with another impressive performance in Charlotte.  It is not uncommon to hear the word “wow”  from the crowd when Marshall connects.  He has the size, strength and athleticism to dominate the D1 level.  He is ready.  OFFER NOW!!!

Christian VanSickle – Christian is a talented specialist.  His biggest strength is his ability to perform at a high level at all three skills.  His field goals are strong off the ground.  His kickoffs are nearing the top of his class.  And he punts with great consistency.  Look for Christian to be a mainstay at the top of recruit boards for his class.

Chris Dunn – Chris is a big time talent from his age.  Other staff members were shocked to find out that he was only going to be a sophomore.  He smashed field goals all day and once again won the kickoff competition for his age.  He is an athlete and a competitor. The future looks bright.

Top Class of 2019 Prospect:
Evan Davis – Remember this name.  He is going to be a great one.  Evan did an amazing job for his age.

TX Summer Camp Recap – Ewton Comes Out On Top!

The Chris Sailer Kicking Summer Tour rolled on with a stop in Dallas, TX on July 23.  Always a hot bed for talent, specialists once again did not disappoint at this very popular camp.  Well over 100 athletes representing over a dozen states and 2 countries were in attendance.  Instruction, recruiting seminars, competition and evaluation were once again the name of the game.  Take a look at the results.

Overall Camp Champion:
Michael Ewton (2017, TX) – Michael stepped up big time.  He is one of the best pure field goal kickers in the Class of 2017.  He rarely misses and showed range well beyond 50 yards.  Michael hits a true ball off the ground.  His kickoffs are also solid and show promise.  A great competitor that will stay near the top of this class the next few years.

Field Goal Champion:
Joe Brookhart (2016, CO) – Joe is a gifted kicker / punter.  He is a great looking athlete with a strong leg.  He has nice natural talent.  Joe hit a 60-yard field goal to win this competition.  His kickoffs are also college ready.  Plus he shows talent and potential as a punter.  He has the tools to be a great college player.

Kickoff Champion:
Bailey Raborn (2016, LA) – Bailey is one of the very best, if not the best combo player in the nation.  The UCLA commit is a special talent.  On this day he hit a 87 yard kickoff with 4.00 hang time.  He also hit another kickoff off the upright from the 35 yard line.  His field goals are strong.  And his best skill just might be his punting.  The versatile athlete will be a great player for the Bruins.

Punt Champion:
John Delagarza (2016, TX) – John is a great talent.  He is big, tall, strong and athletic.  He has the ideal frame for a D1-Punter.  He easily hits 45 yard punts with over 4.5 second hang time.  He shows that he can hit 60 yard punts with 4.9 second hang time.  His potential us fantastic.  As he becomes more consistent, the sky is the limit.  Could be a huge sleeper in this class.

Top Class of 2016 Prospect:
Blake Patterson (TX) – This lefty has big time potential.  He has 55 plus yard range on field goals.  He shows that he can hit kickoffs 75 yards with 4.15 hang time.  And he has the ability to develop into a punter as well.  Blake is a D1 prospect without a doubt.

Other Class of 2016 Standouts: Aidan Daily, Cole Moos, Gabriel Rui, Alex Webb, Colby Lorenz, Landen Saling, Ryan Travis, Reece Morrison, Phillip Keys, Hayden Ashley, Caleb Chadwell, Zach Bryant.

Top Class of 2017 Prospect:
Hayden Moehring (AR) – Hayden is quickly vaulting himself into the national spotlight.  The long time Chris Sailer Kicking student had a huge day.  The now 5-Star rated kicker hits a big ball off the ground.  Field goals are outstanding.  Kickoffs are in the top 5 in the country in this class.  He hit several balls over 75 yards with 4.0 second hang time.  Hayden is a future star at the college level.

Other Class of 2017 Standouts: Kevin Madigan, Josh Grant, Austin Neuhauser, Eric Carrasco, Gabe Pontiff, Geoffrey Pace, Liam Denholm, Luis Diaz, Luis Reyes, Robert Blue.

Cole Talley (TX) – Cole can potentially be the #1 ranked kicker in this class for years to come.  A great athlete with an incredible leg.  He nearly beat out all the seniors on kickoffs.  His best ball was 73 yards with 4.15 second hang time. Also has outstanding range on field goals. With hard work, he could be special.

Top Class of 2019 Prospect:
Will Reichard (AL) – The long time Chris Sailer Kicking student is starting to come into his own.  He has always had great form and kicked with excellent consistency, but now the power is there as well.  He hit field goals from 50, 52 and 54 yards.  His kickoffs were also outstanding for his age.  He is a great competitor who does very well under pressure.  Look for Will to be a top kicker in this class for years to come.

2016 U.S. Army All-Americans Selected! 2016 FBU Youth All Americans Selected!

The FBU Top Gun camp took place July 17-18, 2015 in Dublin, OH.  Over 1,000 of the world’s best athletes competed in Top Gun this year.  Chris Sailer Kicking and Rubio Long Snapping ran 11 regional FBU camps in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Charlotte, Chicago, San Francisco, Houston, Orlando, Dallas, Columbus, New Jersey and Miami searching for the nation’s best specialists.  Those athletes were invited to Top Gun to compete for the most prestigious All-American Games in the world for youth and high school athletes.  Over 150 specialists assembled in Ohio taking advantage of this massive opportunity.  Take a look at the results….

2021 FBU Youth All-American
Carter Davis (FL) – Carter is a special young talent.  Heading into only the 7th grade, he stepped up as if he were already in high school.  He hit field goals of 35, 40 and 45 yards to beat out Connor Lytton for this honor.  He excels mentally as much as physically.  Carter was a staff favorite from the start.  The future is bright for Carter.  The world will see him on center stage in San Antonio in January.

2020 FBU Youth All-Americans
Hayden Olsen (GA) – Hayden is one of the most consistent field goal kickers that we have ever seen at this age.  Most importantly, he performs under pressure.  Now a back to back youth All-American, Hayden hopes to follow in the footsteps in the likes of Rodrigo Blankenship & Skyler Southam who both went on to become U.S. Army All-Americans.

Brock Travelstead (GA) – Brock is a FBU veteran. He came up just short last year, but wasn’t going to be denied this year.  He is a great young athlete with a very strong leg for his age.  Brock enjoys pressure and seems to do his best when the most is on the line.  He should excel in San Antonio.

Class of 2019 MVP
Griffin Crosa (OH) – Griffin was selected as the Class of 2019 MVP because of his ability to do all three skills at a high level.  He shows great future college ability as a kicker and punter.  Griffin is a talented player that should compete with the best in his class for years to come.

Class of 2018 MVP
Chris Dunn (NC) – Chris is a big time young talent.  He dominated all competitions throughout the weekend.  He already hits 55 yard field goals and puts the ball deep into the end zone on kickoffs.  Chris is a great athlete and competitor.  The future is bright.

Class of 2017 MVP
Adam Stack (HI) – Adam is proving early on that he is without a doubt a D1 scholarship pick.  The Chris Sailer Kicking top rated kicker and punter won both the field goal and kickoff competitions.  Adam is an early favorite to earn a spot as a 2017 U.S. Army All-American.  He is the real deal.

2016 U.S. Army All-Americans
Punters
Drue Chrisman (OH) – Drue is a very impressive punter all the way around.  He has the size, strength and athleticism to dominate the next level.  He punts for excellent hang time and distance.  He consistently his 45 plus yard punts with 4.8 plus second hang time. He was the top punter over the course of the two days and the very first to be named U.S. Army All-American.  The Ohio State commit is going to be a great addition to the history of this prestigious game.

Marshall Long (NC) – Marshall stepped up big time and in the process earned his spot as an All-American.  He is big, tall, strong and athletic.  Marshall consistency punted the ball 45 plus yards with 4.6 second hang time.  When it came time to compete, he took down several punters that are already committed to major D1 programs.  He is a D1 scholarship pick and this selection will vault him into the national spot light.

Kickers
JJ Molson (Canada) – JJ was a favorite to earn a selection coming into Top Gun and he didn’t disappoint.  He hit consecutive field goals of 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 63 and 65 yards to earn the first U.S. Army All American kicking position.  The UCLA commit is a special one.  The long time Chris Sailer Kicking student is well deserving.

Skyler Southam (Utah) – Skyler Southam is the #1 kicker in the nation.  He defended that title with another outstanding performance.  His field goals and kickoffs are both superb.  Skyler dominates when it counts the most.  The BYU commit is a big time player that will make a difference in this game.

IL Summer Camp Recap – Cote Wins It!

The Chris Sailer Kicking 2015 Summer Tour is in full swing. The regional summer camps kicked off this past Thursday in Chicago, IL. Over 100 specialists from 15 plus states were in attendance to train and compete with the best. This camp has a great history, most recently landing champions Tanner Blain at San Diego State and Tyler Davis at Penn State last year. I expect similar results from this year’s talented group. Take a look at the champions and other standouts.

Camp Champion: David Cote (2016, Canada) – David is an incredible talent. He is big, strong, athletic and naturally talented. He won the charting field goal session proving his consistency and showing off his range. He came through in the head to head finals hitting consecutive field goals of 47, 52, 57 and 60 yards off the ground. His kickoffs are also tremendous. If you didn’t know the name before, you know it now. David is a D1 specialist without a doubt.

Field Goal Champion: Nate Needham (2016, IN) – The longtime Chris Sailer Kicking student is an all around standout. He won the last man standing field goal competition by nailing 5 consecutive field goals of 35, 40, 45, 50, and 52 yards. He kicks off the ground with ease and consistency. He averages 65 plus yards on kickoffs with 3.8 – 4.1 hang time. Nate also excels punting the football. He is a D1 talent.

Kickoff Champion: Kaden Keon (2016, MI) – The Chris Sailer Kicking “Event Elite” Member has one of the strongest legs in the nation and is an incredible competitor. He won the kickoff competition by hitting 75-yard kickoffs and consistently putting up 4.0 plus second hang time. Kaden is also strong on both field goals and punts. Kaden will compete very well at the D1 level.

Punt Champion: Bryce Webb (2017, KY) – The #4 ranked punter in the nation again proved why. This is now the third consecutive regional camp that he has appeared in the finals. Bryce is a great athlete with the prototypical punter frame. He easily averages 40 plus yards and shows the ability to hit 4.8-5.1 hang time punts. He should be a top target for college coaches in next year’s recruiting class.

Other 2016 Standouts: Austin Chekaluk, Christian Dinevski, Henry Tarbox, Karl Schmidt, Ryley Guay, Seiver Tandy & Tyler Grimes.

Top 2017 Kicker: Quinn Saluan (OH) – Quinn is a very talented kicker / punter. The veteran Chris Sailer Kicking specialist is a good athlete with one of the stronger legs in his class. He hits 50 plus yard field goals off the ground. His kickoffs are solid and improving. He is also a capable punter. Quinn is a competitor that has a bright college future.

Other 2017 Standouts: Adam Durocher, Chase Bruns, Cody Gronewold, Declan Holm, Matt Hellen, Noah Donatelli.

Class of 2018/2019 Future Stars: Brandon Walters, Brayden Johnson, Eduardo Favella, Eric Hildebrand, Andy Vujnovich, Zac Adams, Jake Holous & James Turner.

Chris Sailer Kicking will next make a stop in Dublin OH for the FBU Top Gun camp (July 17-18) where we will be selecting the 2016 U.S. Army All-Americans as well at the Adidas Freshman All-Americans & FBU Class of 2020 and 2021 All-Americans. Then the summer will conclude with regional camps in Dallas, TX (July 23), Charlotte, NC (July 25), Atlanta, GA (July 26) and Los Angeles, CA (July 29).
