Pros & Cons of Kicking on Turf vs. Grass…

Football surfaces have come a long way from when stadiums were multipurpose facilities. Both real grass and artificial surfaces are markedly better than even just ten years ago.

For Kickers, what are the pros and cons of kicking on grass vs turf? Let’s take a look at some considerations.

Consistency. Most Kickers would agree that a turf field will be consistent throughout the playing surface, while grass will have areas with varying “personalities”. While even turf surfaces will have differences between facilities, each field is generally consistent within itself.

Weather. Most modern fields have such good drainage it takes quite a deluge to dramatically affect the kicking surface. There are some turf surfaces that can actually be slicker than natural grass when wet. Snow can more easily be removed from turf surfaces.

Accuracy. Research shows field goal percentages are higher on turf as opposed to natural grass. This however, can also be misleading, as most stadiums that have natural grass are open air facilities.

Even many veteran Kickers in the NFL who initially preferred natural grass are becoming convinced that the new artificial turf surfaces provide a better opportunity for kicking success.

At Chris Sailer Kicking, we know the real difference is mainly between the Kicker’s ears. Control that piece of turf and you will see greater kicking success.

Chris Sailer Kicking – Caption Contest

Found this picture and couldn’t pass it up!  Time for a contest.  Submit your best caption to @Chris_Sailer via Twitter.  Winner will receive a FREE Chris Sailer Kicking T-Shirt.  More importantly, we need to be more creative than the Long Snappers.  Rubio seems to think that kickers have no sense of humor.

The contest will end on Thursday, May 23 at noon PST.

Let the games begin….

CSK “TOP 12” K/P Aaron Medley Pick up 2nd Offer!

The “TOP 12” continues to pick up steam as we head into the summer.  Chris Sailer Kicking “TOP 12” Kicker / Punter Aaron Medley (2014 TN) has picked up his second offer.  Texas A&M has offered the top national combo prospect.  They join Oklahoma in the battle to gain his services.  Expect many more offers to roll in for Aaron soon.

Medley has been a Chris Sailer Kicking student since 2011, never dropping outside of the top 10 national rankings for his class.  He is special because he dominates at both the kicking and punting positions making him an extremely valuable dual threat.  He was recently selected to the prestigious “TOP 12” in January in Las Vegas.  Aaron is a fine young man man with an incredible work ethic.

Look for Aaron to continue to pick up offers this May, June and July.  It should be a great Spring and Summer for Medley and all of the “TOP 12” and “Event Elite”.  Stay tuned.

A Quality Highlight Tape Can Make a Difference…

A quality highlight video showing your kicking/punting skills can be invaluable in the college recruiting process. A video that is professionally filmed and edited will go a long way to show coaches that you are serious about your kicking career.

At Chris Sailer Kicking, we are now pleased to offer highlight tapes of Kickers/Punters who attend our camps. Our experience has taught us what coaches are looking for in a highlight tape, and we provide the angles and results that they wish to see.

When your tape is produced you own it and you are welcome to do with it as you please. We of course suggest you email it to coaches, add it to your Chris Sailer Kicking Player Ranking Profile and your NCSA Player Profile. With YouTube the second largest search engine in the world, you should upload it there as well, making sure you use some appropriate keywords.

You have invested time, hard work, and money into moving forward with your kicking career. Take the next step and get a quality highlight video made. You can learn more about the videos available at Chris Sailer Kicking Camps by visiting our website.
