Chris Sailer Kicking Update – May 20th, 2020

CHRIS SAILER KICKING UPDATE

Like the rest of the world, we have spent the last few months dealing with the COVID-19 situation and its impact. We have been following the recommendations from the CDC and state and local government health officials in the areas our events are held.

We are working with our venues to secure future dates to help you become the best specialist you can be! This can be complicated to coordinate as we typically use schools which are mostly closed right now.

You can be sure we will continue to plan our events to provide a safe and healthy environment for all the athletes and families.  Our main focus is to insure we meet our customers’ needs all while keeping you, our instructors, and communities safe.

As an alternative to traveling, Sailer is offering Live Virtual Mentoring Sessions and weekly Webinars. You can learn more about online options HERE

Which Camps Should I Attend?

I get asked hundreds of questions per day.  I post to social media and write blogs to make finding answers to these questions easier.  Perhaps the most common question that we get asked is…. “Which camps should I attend?”

I can understand why this question comes up so often.  There are so many options out there that it can become confusing.   After 17 years in the business, I know the value of great instruction, the value of education, and perhaps most importantly, the value of exposure.  I make choices each year to offer our clients the best possible options to achieve success.  Chris Sailer Kicking remains #1 in the business for that reason.  High school coaches, college coaches and NFL coaches trust in Chris Sailer Kicking.  The proof is in the results.

Las Vegas, TOP 12, US Army All-America Bowl, Underclassman Invitational, Fall / Spring / Summer 1-Day Regional Camps, FBU Youth All-American Games, Australian Scout Camps, College Training Camp & NFL Training Camps, NFL Combines, College Camps.  Many have tried to copy the model that Chris Sailer Kicking has created, but there is a reason why we are #1 in the World.  Experience, real relationships with everyone that matters in this business & the best instruction available across the world.  If you want to make it as a kicker or punter Welcome to Chris Sailer Kicking.

You have asked the question, here is the best answer we can give you.

Description of Camps:
1-Day Fall, Spring & Summer Regional Camps: These are a 1-Day Camps. Camp includes instruction, video analysis, competition, evaluations and rankings.  These are our most popular all around camps. Camps run from 8:30 – 5:00. Registration is open to ALL. Registrations are excepted on a first come, first serve basis.  There is great value for all age and skill levels.

Las Vegas Prep Camps: These are a 1-Day Camps.  These camps are designed to help prepare for Las Vegas.  You DO NOT have to attend the Vegas Events to attend these camps.  They are a great experience either way.  Camp includes instruction, competition and national rankings.  Camps run from 8:30 – 5:00. Registration is open to ALL. Registrations are excepted on a first come, first serve basis.  There is great value for all age and skill levels.

Las Vegas Events: These are a 2-Day Camps. Both January & May are set up exactly the same way.  Both are equally important.  If you want to be the best, attend both.  These are THE MOST IMPORTANT camps of the year.  Camp includes instruction, competition, evaluations and rankings.  The TOP 12 Web Series (beginning in 2017) will capture and offer the ultimate exposure. These are NOT camps you need to be invited to.  They provide great experience for all specialists.
Arrive Friday.  January Event ends at 6:00 PM on Sunday.  May Event ends at 4:00 PM on Sunday.  Open to 8th Graders, Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, Junior College and 4-Year Transfers.   The TOP 12 will be selected from both events.

Underclassmen Invitational Camp: This is a 2-Day Camp.  Open to Sophomores, Freshman, 8th Graders, 7th Graders and sometimes 6th Graders.  This camp is designed for both the specialists & THEIR PARENTS.  Camp time is spent equally on the filed and in the classroom.  This camp will educate you for years to come from A-Z when it comes to the world of kicking and punting. Camp includes instruction, competition, classroom seminars, evaluation and rankings.  This is an Invite Only camp.  You will receive an invitation directly from Chris Sailer.  Camp is held in Tampa, FL.

The TOP 12 Camp: This is a 2-Day Camp.  This is an Invite Only Camp.  The only way to get invited to this camp is to attend the Las Vegas Events.  January =  20 Kickers/Punters will be selected. May = 20 additional Kickers/Punters will be selected.  This camp is the best of the best.  There is no other camp like this one.  The TOP 12 will be selected on site during camp.  The TOP 12 will covered by the TOP 12 Web Series (think American Idol meets Hard Knocks).  This should be your #1 goal!  Camp is held in Tampa, FL.

College Camps: These are 1-Day Camps.  These camps are run by the Universities and University coaching staffs.  These camps should be seen as tryouts.  This is your opportunity to be seen by the particular colleges that you select. Camp includes instruction and competition. Register for these camps through the University.

FBU TOP GUN:  This is a 2-Day Camp.  You must be invited by Chris Sailer. To be invited is a serious honor.   The specialists for the US Army All-America Bowl and FBU Youth All-American Bowls will be selected at this camp.  Chris Sailer Kicking is an official partner of FBU, The US Army All-America Bowl & The FBU Youth All-America Bowls.  Camps include: Exposure through FBU, the opportunity to be considered for the US Army All-America Bowl & FBU All-America Games, instruction, video analysis, evaluation and rankings.  You register for these camps by calling FBU directly.

Notes:
I recommend attending the TOP GUN Camp every year. The U.S. Army All-American Bowl & FBU Youth All-American Bowl participants are selected by me at this camp.
When prioritizing camps, Vegas Events should always come first.
All camps offer instruction, competition, evaluation and national rankings.
Highlight videos are available at the 1-Day Regional Camps, Las Vegas Events and Invite Camps.
Every camp has SOLD OUT for the past 12 years.  Register early.
Chris Sailer will no longer run college camps as the NCAA has passed a rule no longer allowing any non university employee to serve as instructors at these camps.

This might seem like we are asking a lot of you.  You are right, we are.  An opportunity to play college football or perhaps in the NFL is HUGE.  We will give you that opportunity.  The harder you work, the more time you invest, the reality of reaching your goals will come true.  It is very competitive out there.  Those who work the hardest and understand the process stay one step ahead of the game.  See you at a Chris Sailer Kicking camp soon!

What Summer Camps Should I Attend In 2015?

Summer Camps 2015

The most common question so far about the summer of 2015 has been, “There are so many camps, how do I know which camps to attend and how many should I attend?”

I will do my best to give you some simple and clear tips.

What types of camps are there?

College Camps:

•    These are essentially tryouts that are run by the Universities themselves.
•    Seniors to be should attend these camps.
•    Younger players may want to attend one or two of these simply for experience.  (Unless you are the #1 or #2 ranked specialist in the nation)
•    Be smart about how many you attend.  You should not kick back to back days as you will not show your best.
•    Register for these camps through the University by either going to their website or calling the football office.
•    Don’t expect great instruction.  Remember, these are basically tryouts.  Most eyes will be on the best of the best.
•    Camp size ranges from 75-250 Kickers, Punters & Long Snappers.
•    NO RANKINGS

•    Underclassmen is a combination of education & competition.  Parents should 100% attend as this camp is it is as much for them.
•    Underclassmen camp size 50-75 Kickers & Punters.
•    “TOP 12” & “Event Elite” = Best of the best in the world invited based on performance in Las Vegas in either January or May.
•    “TOP 12” & “Event Elite” is open to the public for viewing.
•    Rankings will be updated based on performance.

•    Most popular CSK camps that provide the entire experience. (Instruction, Parent Involvement, Film Analysis, Competition, Rankings)
•    Those entering senior year should attend 1-2 of these camps this summer. (1 in your region and 1 outside your region)
•    Younger players should attend at least one of these.

FBU Camps:

•    Invite only camps run by FBU (A Chris Sailer Kicking Partner)
•    If you are invited, you should 100% attend at least 1 of these camps.
•    Expect great instruction and exposure
•    Camps run by Chris Sailer or Chris Sailer Kicking Staff (Joe Houston, Obi Egekeze, Erik Folk, Carson Wiggs, Chris Nendick).

So, of course, now you have follow up questions.

Q: My son is a senior to be, won’t his legs get tired?

A: If you want to play college football, this summer should be 100% dedicated to kicking & punting.  To answer the question….YES, they will get tired.  You have to be smart about laying out your summer schedule.  You cannot kick/punt everyday.  Your body needs rest to stay healthy and maintain the ability to perform at your highest level.  Try not to kick/punt on consecutive days.  If you have to kick/punt on consecutive days, take 2 days of rest before the next time you kick/punt.

Q: Many camps are scheduled for the same day?  And if I cannot kick/punt on consecutive days I am going to miss out on many opportunities, so what do I do?

A: It is impossible to be in 2 places at once.  So sometimes you will have to make tough choices.  A college coach can schedule you to come kick/punt for them on an alternate date.  As long as the University is putting on another camp on that day, you can go kick/punt for them.  The coach has to be willing to do this for you.  This is how you will know how bad they really want you.  Call the coach and try to schedule and alternate date.

Q: How do I prioritize which camps are most important?

A: 1. “TOP 12” & “Event Elite”, 2. Underclassmen Invitational 3. FBU Top Gun, 4. Chris Sailer Kicking 1-Day Camps, 5. FBU Regional Camps, 6. College Camps

Q: Camp costs and the travel costs associated with these camps can be very expensive, so what do I do?

A: You will have to prioritize based on the above.  It is important to see other parts of the country if possible.  This will one day make the college decision process much easier.  Again, tough choices.

Q: I am getting a lot of “Invites” from competitors of yours?  Do I have to go to these?

A: I can write a book on this.  But to keep it simple, No.  Invites aren’t invites if they invite everyone.  Our website is used everyday to solicit.  Clever advertising doesn’t equal a quality camp.  Chris Sailer Kicking is the #1 most trusted resource for college coaches nationwide.  Actions speak louder than words.  Believe in Chris Sailer Kicking and will you not be disappointed.

Tips:

•    Be realistic about your skill level when it comes to college camps.  Remember, these are tryouts.  Attend college camps at the level in which you are capable of playing.  This will give you college options.  Attend D1, D2, D3, NAIA, etc. camps where you have a realistic chance of playing.  Otherwise you will simply be spinning your wheels.  Be open minded in your search.
•    There is no way to figure out 100% which Universities will be offering scholarships.  Things are always changing.  Almost every University will take 1 Kicker, 1 Punter & 1 Long Snapper each year as either a scholarship or preferred walk on athlete.  So, all college camps provide opportunity.  Don’t stress yourself out trying to figure out everything that happens behind the scenes.  Their is NO LIST.
•    If a college doesn’t have a kicking camp (common with lower level schools), call the coach and ask for a day that you can kick/punt for them.
•    Don’t kick at a college camp if your are not 100%.  You want to show at your absolute best.  Your performance/results/charts will be used by not only that University, but shared with others as well.  Word travels fast both in the positive and negative.
•    When you travel, take advantage of the opportunity. Visit Universities in the area.  Get a feel for the area or region of the country.  Do not be afraid to simply walk on campus and into the football office.  Tell them you are a Chris Sailer Kicking recruit and would love a tour.  Most Universities will treat you very well.

2015 Chris Sailer Kicking Schedule

Meet the Class of 2016 “TOP 12”

In 2003, Chris Sailer Kicking established the biggest kicking, punting, and long snapping camp the world had ever seen, The National Kicking Competition.  The camp brought in the best of the best from across the nation to compete at one location.  The camp established credible recruiting rankings and evaluations for kickers, punters, and long snappers that college coaches across the country would use for years to come.  The camp, now simply known as VEGAS takes place in Las Vegas each year in January.
Every athlete comes with one major goal in common, making the prestigious “TOP 12”.  This is THE exposure list to be on for national exposure.  The twelve best underclassmen in the nation are identified for the Kicking/Punting positions.  The best of the best are then invited to the exclusive, invite only, “TOP 12” camp that following summer.  College coaches take notice, and scholarships are awarded.

To get an idea for what the “TOP 12” is all about, take a look at some of the very best over the years:  Ryan Succop (South Carolina & Tennessee Titans), , Kai Forbath (UCLA & Lou Groza Award Winner, & Washington Redskin), Dan Bailey (Oklahoma State, Lou Groza Award Winner & Dallas Cowboys), & Randy Bullock (Texas A&M, Lou Groza Awards Winner, & Houston Texan), Bryan Anger (CAL & Jacksonville Jaguar), Brad Nortman (Wisconsin & Carolina Panters), Blair Walsh (Georgia & Minnesota Viking All-Pro), Justin Tucker (Texas, Baltimore Raven All-Pro & Super Bowl Champion), Jeff Locke (UCLA & Minnesota Viking), Cody Parkey (Auburn, Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro), Tress Way (Oklahoma & Washington Redskins) Just to name a few!

So far the “TOP 12″ has already made some serious noise.  Skyler Southam is committed to BYU on full scholarship.  Butch Hampton is committed to Western Michigan on full scholarship. Jonn Young has a full scholarship offer from West Virginia.  JJ Molson has a full scholarship offer from Arkansas State. Jet Toner, Kekoa Sasaoka, & JD Dellinger have offers from Army.  And many many more.

2015 NC & GA Spring Camp Recap & Rankings

The 2015 Chris Sailer Kicking Spring Camp Tour continued with stops in the very talented states of North Carolina and Georgia.  There were some outstanding performances and the rankings were directly effected.  Take a look a look at the results and who made waves in the specialist recruiting word.

Champions:
NC – Keith Duncan (Class of 2016, NC): Keith is one of the most consistent field goals kickers in the nation.  He has a strong leg and kicks with ease off the ground.  He has now won 3 major field goal competitions in the past 2 years.  He also came out on top in Las Vegas last May and in NC this past summer.  His strong performance has landed him inside the Top 20 national prospects in the Class of 2016.

GA – Ruben Guzman (Transfer, CA): The long time Chris Sailer Kicking Punter traveled all the way from California to participate in both Charlotte in Atlanta camps.  He was the punt champion in Charlotte, but fell just short to Duncan in the finals.  He was not to be denied in Atlanta.  He dominated the punt competition again and then defeated a talented Jackson Morris in a head to head final.  Ruben will be attending Grad School and will have one more year to play at the college level.  If you need a punter, Ruben is the guy.

Class of 2015 Standouts:
Cole Fisher (GA): The Chris Sailer Kicking “TOP 12” Member and Mercer commit is a special player.  He is smooth, consistent and steps up under pressure.  I expect big things from Cole at the college level.  Cole will be on student staff this May in Las Vegas.

JD Houston (MS): The junior college prospect was solid as always.  He currently holds college scholarship offers and will be making his decision soon.  JD should enjoy great success at the next level.  He is a very consistent performer.

Matt Barber (PA):  Matt is a very good combo player.  A strong athlete that shows nice skill as both a kicker and punter.  He holds several D1 preferred walk on offers and will be making his college choice very soon.

Logan Howard (NC):  The Western Carolina commit is a talented all around player.  A great athlete that will compete at all skills at the next level.  He has a bright future.

Class of 2016 D1 Scholarship Picks:
Jonn Young (NC): Jonn is one of the most talented combo players in the nation.  The “TOP 12” Member currently holds a scholarship offer from West Virginia.  He should see tons of attention this summer.

Mitchell Wasson (GA): Mitchell has one of the strongest legs in the nation and endless talent.  I cannot wait to see what the future holds for the “TOP 12” Member.  He could be special.

2015 FBU Camps – U.S. Army All-American Bowl

For the second year in a row, Chris Sailer Kicking & Rubio Long Snapping will be teaming up with FBU to run their specialists portions of their camps. FBU is the world’s largest football training service and has hired us to handle their Kicking, Punting & Long Snapping section of their camps. It is an honor and we are proud to do it again. It is a top notch organization that benefits countless athletes across the country.
This year, Chris Sailer Kicking will be running more camps in order to hit more areas around the country. To be able to do this, I will only be at certain locations. The locations in italics are camps that I will personally be at this spring and summer. Those not in italics, will have two senior Chris Sailer Kicking instructors in attendance (staff members that have been with me for well over 30 camps). They will follow the same format as myself and report directly to FBU and yours truly.
We will be choosing the 2 Kickers, 2 Punters & 2 Long Snappers that will participate in the US ARMY ALL-AMERICAN BOWL at the FBU TOP GUN CAMP in Ohio on July 16-18. Chris Sailer Kicking & Rubio Long Snapping will also be selecting the East Bay Youth All-American for the Class of 2019 (Freshman All-American Bowl) and 2020 (8th Grade All-American Bowl) at the FBU TOP GUN CAMP in Ohio on July 16-18. You MUST be invited to the TOP GUN camp by performing well at one of the regional camps prior to the TOP GUN Camp. Bottom line, you will have to do well at one of the camps, that the Chris Sailer Kicking staff  is in attendance at, to pick up an invite from myself and/or one of my senior instructors.READ MORE

You will need a code to register for an FBU camp, and since you are a Chris Sailer Kicking K/P, you will have it right now: CS15. Use this code to register now for an FBU camp as they will sell out.

What Coaches Will Ask a Recruit

Everyone always wants to know the key questions a coach will ask their son/daughter when they are getting recruited and the truth is, it’s the basics…

  • “So, what’s up?”
  • “How is school?”
  • “How is the weather?”
  • “How are your grades?”
  • “Do you play any other sports?”
  • “Do you have a girlfriend?”
  • “Would you be interested in coming to _____________ to get your degree and play some football?”

Right now, you are thinking “this is a joke, Sailer.” No, it is not. The coach is not looking to solve the world’s problems by speaking to your kid. He is simply trying to see if your kid is someone he would like to spend the next 4-5 years with.

Seriously.

They just want to hear the athlete speak, make sure he/she can hold a conversation and  is someone that can operate on their own without mommy/daddy speaking for them.

So, you want to prep your kid? Just speak to them.
