I’m a Senior, What Should I Do In November?

5 Easy Tips For The Class of 2018 To Get Ahead In Recruiting – November

1. Stop panicking.  We are still very early in the recruiting process.  Less that 5% of the class of 2018 (K/P) have made college commitments.  Less than 10% of the class of 2018 (K/P) have been offered any sort of college opportunity.  Note, there are many waves of recruiting.  Recruiting will last all the way through August when fall camps officially begin for the upcoming college football season.

2. Take unofficial visits as often as possible.  An unofficial visit simply mean that you have to pay for the visit yourself.   Getting on campus is the best way to show a college football program genuine interest.  Sending emails, making phone calls, direct messaging on social media, etc. simply isn’t enough anymore.  A coach will know that you have a real interest once you make the effort to get on campus.

3. Start to narrow down your search to universities and colleges that are realistic options.  This includes level of football (FBS, FCS, D2, D3, NAII, JC, etc.), level of academics, region of the country, etc.  Stop targeting D1 football programs if you are not a D1 recruit.  Stop targeting high academic institutions if you have a 2.0 GPA.  Find schools that will reciprocate interest in you and opportunities will follow.

READ THIS BLOG ON HOW SCHOOLS RECRUIT

4. Ask for an opportunity, not a scholarship.  Every college coach in America knows that you would like to be offered a scholarship.  When you ask for a scholarship, this turns them off.  You are basically limiting communication opportunity.  When you ask for an opportunity to be on the team, coaches will be receptive.  You are opening a door for communication.  The goal in recruiting is to create options.  Offers of any kind, create buzz, which create more options.  Scholarship vs. Preferred Walk On offers will take care of itself in the end.

5. Get ready for XXXI (January 13-15, 2018).  The biggest mistake made these days is thinking that recruiting for seniors is already over by this time.  In fact, it is the exact opposite.  90% of Kickers / Punters in this class will be recruited heavily during this time of year.  It will be feeding frenzy.  National Letter of Intent Day (NLI) is in early February.  Vegas takes place this time of year for this reason.  College coaches pay a tremendous amount of attention to the Vegas results and post Vegas rankings.  Scholarships offers and preferred walk on opportunities will be won this weekend in Vegas.

Join us for the largest kicking, punting & long snapping camp in the world, Vegas!!!

2017 CA Spring Camp Recap, Barr-Mira Wins as a Sophomore!

The Chris Sailer Kicking Spring Camp Tour got off to a fantastic start in Los Angeles, CA this past Sunday.  Over the next 3 months Chris Sailer Kicking & Rubio Long Snapping will train and evaluate over 1000 specialists.  This is a huge time of year in recruiting as college coaches pay close attention in the off season.  This is also a time when many other specialists are taking time off or playing other sports.  The benefits are tremendous for those that are dedicated to their craft.  Take a look at the results.

Overall Camp Champion
Nicholas Barr-Mira (2019, CA) – Nicholas became one of the few sophomores to ever win a 1-day regional camp.  The talented player won a field goal competition by going 6-6 including several 50+ yard field goals.  He is also solid on kickoffs and shows punting potential.  He has landed inside the Top 10 nationally ranked prospects in his class after his strong performance.

Field Goal Champion

Jack Morrell (2018, CA) – Jack has been solid now at several consecutive Chris Sailer Kicking camps.  He is a great high school kicker that is competing at a very high level.  He showed off his accuracy in the pole drill and followed it up by nailing several 50 yard field goals.  Jack has the tools to take his game to the college level.

Kickoff Champion
Jonah Lipel (2018, CA) – Jonah was perhaps the most talented prospect at the entire camp.  The long time Chris Sailer Kicking student and recent TOP 12 camp invitee was dominant from start to finish.  He won the kickoff competition with a 70 yard, 4.20 kickoff.  His field goals are clean off the ground with elite height.  Jonah is a D1 prospect that will get the attention of many college coaches this off season.

Punt Champion
Quinton Conaway (JC, CA) – Quinton dominated the punting portion of camp for the majority of the day.  The Oklahoma native and Texas State commit has trained with Chris Sailer Kicking for over 5 years now.  He averaged over 40+ yards, with 4.4+ hang time on the day.  He also has a D1 kickoff leg.  Quinton is mature, experienced and ready for the next level.

Which Camps Should I Attend, and When?

One of the most common questions that I get asked is, “Which camps should my son attend and when?”  I have been running kicking/punting lessons, camps, and national events for 15 years now.  In a perfect world, here is exactly what I would recommend.

6th/7th Grade

  • Attend at least 1 Chris Sailer Kicking Camp as a spectator.  See what it is all about.  I would choose a 1-Day Fall, Spring or Summer Camp in CA, WA, FL, NJ, NC, GA, TX or IL.  Meet Chris Sailer.  Listen to instruction.  Become familiar and comfortable with the camp scene. There is no charge for this.
  • When you feel that you are ready, you may attend the above as a participant.
  • Attend FBU Camps.  Chris Sailer Kicking is an official partner of FBU, the U.S. Army All-American Game and Youth All-American Games.  Chris Sailer will select Kickers, Punters & Long Snappers for these games each year.  You must attend an FBU camp when the Chris Sailer Kicking staff is present to be selected for these games.
  • Start private lessons with a Chris Sailer Kicking private coach.  Text me (818-209-8921) and I will set you up with a great 1-on-1 coach anywhere across the United States.

7th/8th Grade

  • This is the time to begin attending Chris Sailer Kicking Camps.  I would choose a 1-Day Fall, Spring or Summer Camp in CA, WA, FL, NJ, NC, GA, TX or IL.   I would attend ALL 3 camps when Chris Sailer Kicking comes to your region of the U.S.  We come most of these locations 3 times per year (Fall, Spring, and Summer).
  • Attend 1 of the Las Vegas Events as a spectator.  See what the next level of camp is all about.  There is no charge for this.
  • Continue private and group lessons with Chris Sailer and/or a Chris Sailer Kicking private coach.  Text me (818-209-8921) and I will set you up with a great 1-on-1 coach anywhere across the United States.
  • If invited, attend the Underclassmen Invitational.  This camp is “Invite Only” and is for the players and parents.  Learn about your future and how to handle it each step of the way.

9th Grade

  • Attend ALL 3 of the 1-Day Camps in your region (CA, NC, GA, TX, NJ, WA, FL or IL).  We come to most of these locations 3 times per year (Fall, Spring and Summer).
  • Attend at least one 1-day camp another state.  Start to get a feel for travel and other competition.
  • Attend The Las Vegas Events in both January & May.  The time is now to see what it is all about.  See what it takes at every level (Fr, So, Jr, Sr, JC, College, and Pro).  The experience will pay off!!!  Time to set goals.
  • Continue private and group lessons with Chris Sailer and/or a Chris Sailer Kicking private coach.  Text me (818-209-8921) and I will set you up with a great 1-on-1 coach anywhere across the United States.
  • If invited, attend the Underclassmen Invitational.  This camp is “Invite Only” is for the players and parents.  Continue to learn about your future and how to handle it each step of the way.

10th Grade

  • Attend 1 Local College Camp.  These are essentially tryouts.  Go to get experience.  It will pay off for when it really counts. Unless you are a 5-star rated kicker/punter, there is no reason to attend more than one college camp during your sophomore summer.

11th Grade

  • Attend ALL 3 of the  1-Day Camps in your region (CA, NC, GA, TX, NJ, WA, FL or IL).  We come to most of these locations 3 times per year (Fall, Spring and Summer).
  • Attend two to three 1-day camps in other states.  Get a feel for travel and other competition. See what it is like in different regions of the country.  Plan unofficial visits to college while on your trips.
  • Attend The Las Vegas Events in both January & May.  The time is the time to dominate!  See what it takes at every level (Fr, So, Jr, Sr, JC, College, and Pro). Get the exposure and experience that will lead you to success at the college level.
  • Continue private and group lessons with Chris Sailer and/or a Chris Sailer Kicking private coach.  Text me (818-209-8921) and I will set you up with a great 1-on-1 coach anywhere across the United States.
  • Attend Multiple College Camps within reason.  These are essentially tryouts.  Be realistic with your skill level.  Attend camps at all levels of college football (D1, D2, D3, etc.) Be smart when selecting which camps and how many college camps you will attend.  I would recommend 5-6 college camps.  Remember you are like a pitcher in baseball.
  • Attend the TOP 12 & Event Elite Camp.  This is an “Invite Only” Camp that brings together ONLY the best of the best.  You can only get invited by attending the Vegas Events and proving that you are one of the best while competing again the best.  This camp is the ULTIMATE GOAL.  This is the best camp that you will ever attend, if invited.

12th Grade

  • Attend ALL 3 of the  1-Day Camps in your region (CA, NC, GA, TX, NJ, WA, FL or IL).  We come to most of these locations 3 times per year (Fall, Spring and Summer).
  • Attend two to three 1-day camps in other states.  Get a feel for travel and other competition. See what it is like in different regions of the country.  Plan unofficial visits to college while on your trips.
  • Attend The Las Vegas Events in both January & May.  This is the time to dominate!  See what it takes at every level (Fr, So, Jr, Sr, JC, College, and Pro). Get the exposure and experience that will lead you to success at the college level.

As you know, the Vegas Events are the biggest and best Kicking / Punting camps in the world. They are truly a national event to see how you compete against the best in the nation, and world. The May Event, or VEGAS XXVI, is the second largest Kicking / Punting camp that we run (VEGAS XXV in January is the biggest). The main difference is the weather and there are less seniors since many have already stepped onto their college campuses for their next stage of their life.

Think of this as the SUPER BOWL for Kickers / Punters. No other kicking, punting & long snapping event comes close to the exposure offered by the National Kicking Events. Chris Sailer Kicking is, by far, the most credible recruiting source for Kickers / Punters in the country.

The “TOP 12” and “EVENT ELITE” is the list to be on if you are seeking national exposure. From the Vegas Events, the Chris Sailer Kicking Staff will select the “TOP 12” Seniors/JC & the “TOP 12” Underclassman (January) and “Event Elite” (May). Over 90% of the “TOP 12” have received full ride D1A scholarships in the past. Over 99% members of the “TOP 12” have gone on to play college football. In addition the “TOP 12” Underclassman will be invited to attend an exclusive summer camp to train and compete amongst that elite group.

FBU CAMPS / US ARMY ALL-AMERICAN BOWL
For the second year in a row, Chris Sailer Kicking & Rubio Long Snapping will be teaming up with FBU to run the specialists portions of their camps. FBU is the world’s largest football training service and has hired us to handle their Kicking, Punting & Long Snapping section. It is an honor and we are proud to do it again. It is a top notch organization that benefits countless athletes across the country.

This year, Chris Sailer Kicking will be running more camps in order to hit more areas around the country. To be able to do this, I will only be at certain locations. The locations in italics are camps that I will personally be at this spring and summer. Those not in italics, will have senior Chris Sailer Kicking instructors in attendance (staff members that have been with me for well over 30 camps). They will follow the same format as myself and report directly to FBU and yours truly.

We will be choosing the two Long Snappers that will participate in the US ARMY ALL-AMERICAN BOWL at the FBU TOP GUN CAMP in Ohio on July 16-18. Chris Sailer Kicking will also be selecting the East Bay Youth All-American for the Class of 2019 (Freshman All-American Bowl) and 2020 (8th Grade All-American Bowl) at the FBU TOP GUN CAMP in Ohio on July 16-18. You MUST be invited to the TOP GUN camp by performing well at one of the regional camps prior to the TOP GUN Camp. Bottom line, you will have to do well at one of the camps, that the Chris Sailer Kicking staff  is in attendance at, to pick up an invite from myself and/or one of my senior instructors.

To register for an FBU camp, use Code CS15.  It is a benefit to be invited due to being a Chris Sailer Kicking Student. The TOP GUN Codes will be given out once you attend an FBU Regional Camp.

This will be a very high level camp that will be run similarly to the TOP 12 and EVENT ELITE camp. Cost of the camp will include hotel, transportation to the fields and the instruction. This camp is built for Kickers / Punters looking to dominate the college camp and get ready for the NFL.

NFL FREE AGENT CAMP
February 28, Los Angeles CA – Notre Dame Sherman Oaks HS

You (the specialists) asked for it, you got it. They (NFL coaches) asked for it, they got it. As you know, Chris Rubio and myself have always run the biggest and best exposure camps for high school Kickers, Punters and Long Snappers. Now it is time for us to move completely into the NFL realm to give the needed exposure to our college athletes.

Chris Sailer and myself have been asked COUNTLESS times to run a free agent camps since it is something that has been lacking for quite some time in the world of specialists. It is now time. This one day camp will be a showcase for NFL coaches. There will be little coaching (you shouldn’t need a ton if you are at this camp) as this camp will all be about exposure. NFL coaches and personnel will be on hand to personally see the Long Snappers in action.

In order to attend this camp, you must be out of college and be eligible for the NFL draft or an NFL Free Agent.

COLLEGE CAMPS
Chris Sailer Kicking & Rubio Long Snapping will be in charge of several university led college camps across the country. These are camps that the universities put on and have us run. You will register through THEIR website. Here is the list, so far, as more will be added once the dates are finalized…

“TOP 12” & “EVENT ELITE” CAMP
June 15-17, Los Angeles CA – Notre Dame Sherman Oaks HS

This camp is open ONLY to those invited personally by Chris Sailer. You are chosen to attend this camp by performing extremely well at either the January or May National Events in Las Vegas. Do NOT sign up for this camp unless you have been formally invited by Chris Sailer. Former “TOP 12” and “EVENT ELITE” members includes countless college and NFL players, All-Americans, NFL Pro Bowlers and Super Bowl participants.

Some Kicking / Punting “TOP 12” Alumni: Ryan Succop (Tennessee Titans), Justin Tucker (Baltimore Ravens), Blair Walsh (Minnesota Vikings), Dan Bailey (Dallas Cowboys), Kai Forbath (Washington Redskins), Randy Bullock (Houston Texans), Cody Parkey (Philadelphia Eagles), Jeff Locke (Minnesota Vikings), Bryan Anger (Jacksonville Jaguars), Bradley Nortman (Carolina Panthers), Ryan Allen (New England Patriots), Colton Schmidt (Buffalo Bills), Tress Way (Washington Redskins)….to name a few!

The “TOP 12” is chosen after the January Event (VEGAS XXV) and the “EVENT ELITE” is chosen after the spring Event (VEGAS XXVI). There are obviously 12 chosen for the “TOP 12” and there is no set number for the “EVENT ELITE”. Those that deserve it and are top of their class in May, get chosen…it could be one, it could be 20.

The success rate of those we have been selected in the past that go on to play college football (most on scholarship) is over 95%.

UNDERCLASSMEN INVITE EVENT
June 19-20, Los Angeles CA – Notre Dame Sherman Oaks HS

You will almost think of this Event as a baby  “TOP 12” & “EVENT ELITE” Camp. This two day event is a camp that Chris Sailer Kicking will be completely gearing towards the athletes and their parents/guardians. This camp is meant to not only get the athletes headed in the right direction in the beginning and middle of their high school careers, but also the parents as well. It will provide information regarding nutrition, social media, recruiting, film, education and, of course, on field instruction. This event is just as much for the parents/guardians as it is the athletes!

College recruiting for Kickers / Punters is finally getting where it needs to be. Scholarships are being offered earlier and earlier each year. Early exposure is necessary these days. The Chris Sailer Kicking Underclassmen “Invite Only” Event is the perfect opportunity to make a name for yourself and solidify your national ranking at the perfect time. The middle of the summer is now the time college coaches build their underclassmen lists. You want to be on that list. This camp will get you there. It is also your first opportunity to prove that you are a “TOP 12” candidate in your class. The camp is set for early July for a reason, college coaches asked us to do this. They want the inside track early. Don’t be surprised to see more and more underclassmen offered during the season in the near future.

There will be formal meetings/classroom sessions on individual topics such as: Training (what level is right for the underclassmen athlete, how often, proper techniques), Nutrition and Lifting (Good habits, bad habits), Social Media (Setting up and using the proper social media outlets – this has become a must), Filming (proper angles, techniques, times, set up), Education (the importance of it, standards, year by year plan)
