I am a Junior, and it is March!

One of the most common questions that I get is, “I am a junior, and it is March, what am I supposed to do?”

The class ahead of you has signed scholarships on signing date and panic sets in. First some advice – Do Not Panic! It is extremely early. Majority of the K, P, & LS in the class ahead of you are still deciding where they will go college. Be patient, but have a plan.

Steps In The Plan:

  1. Create your recruiting team. It should involve people such as: 1. You, 2. Your Parents, 3. Your High School Coach, 4. Your K, P, LS Coach (Sailer or Rubio), 5. Your High School Academic Counselor & 6. A Recruiting Service (NCSA).
  2. Set your college goals. Where would you like to play? Which schools match your academic interests? Which schools match your social interests? Which school match your athletic interests? Create a VERY broad list of schools that may meet your needs.
  3. Work with NCSA to contact these schools. Create your own email list / social media contact list to contact these schools. This list should have a minimum of 100 schools on it (D1, D2, D3, and NAIA). It should include schools from all divisions and all conferences. Contact these schools with an initial email / DM. State your interest to play college football for them. Link your highlight video. Link your Chris Sailer Kicking Profile Page. Link your NCSA profile page. List your contact info, your High School coaches contact info, your kicking coaches contact info, your GPA, and any test scores. Inquire about their college kicking camp for the upcoming summer. Ask for the date and express your interest to show them your ability to play for them. Inquire about their Junior Day. Finally, ask to be on their Recruit List for their games for the upcoming season.
  4. Set up some Spring Unofficial Visits. These could be Junior Days, attending Spring Ball practices / scrimmages, or simply taking an unofficial visit. Try to set up college campus tours. Try to set up meetings with coaches and academic counselors. Get out there face to face and educate yourself. This will shows a genuine interest in the school.
  5. Attend Chris Sailer Kicking Spring Camps and Vegas XXXIV. These camps are crucial for your exposure. Coaches are starting to make their recruit lists for your Class. You need to be at Vegas XXXIV to get on these lists. Don’t be fooled, Chris Sailer Kicking is #1 in the world when it comes to placing players in college!
  6. Set your summer schedule. No such thing as a vacation for you this summer. Attend Chris Sailer Kicking Camps. Attend College Camps (Try-Outs), Take unofficial visits. This is your time to shine. This is when you will earn a scholarship or walk-on. Try to get to as many parts of the country as possible within reason.

This will set you up to have contacts and a great recruitment following for your upcoming senior season. Be realistic in the colleges you are targeting. Target schools that you have the ability or potential to play at. This will be a Spring/Summer to remember if you do it correctly. Best of luck!

So You Didn’t Make TOP 12, What Now?

For the past few weeks, you have been waiting anxiously to see if you were going to be selected to the TOP 12 Camp. When the first 20 selections were announced, 20 kickers / punters were ecstatic. Hundreds of others were upset, frustrated, angry, etc…. rightfully so. As athletes and competitors the desire to succeed should run deep.

Couple ways to look at it….

You can be upset with me for not selecting you. You can be upset with yourself for not performing when it counted. You can even find a way to blame others, but, it is ultimately on you. The only thing you can control is how hard and smart you work. Everyone in Vegas is competing for the same spots. Don’t let anybody outwork you and you will see different results.

You need to use this as motivation to make sure you perform better. This is all up to you. The choice is yours. If you are a Kicker / Punter that strives to be the best, you want to be at that TOP 12 camp this summer. Any single athlete that has been there (scholarship Kickers / Punters, All-Americans, NFL players) will tell you it is, by far, the best camp they have ever been to in their life. What you need to do is get back on the horse. Work smarter and harder. Your opportunity is waiting for you in Las Vegas. VEGAS XXXIV

At Vegas XXXIV, I will choose 20 additional TOP 12 Camp Invitees.  They will join the first 20 selected at the Invite Only TOP 12 Camp this summer.   This is a true invite only camp. I do NOT just hand out invites to get people to come to it. That would give me no credibility. I choose the best because they are the best. They will represent the TOP 12 and Chris Sailer Kicking forever.

Are you one of them? Time to decide. Prove to me, and the rest of the world, that you belong.

Or don’t. THE CHOICE IS YOURS…..

They should be commended on their accomplishments. I understand that many other tremendous kicking and punting specialists in attendance were also deserving and can state their case as to why they are deserving over the first 20 selected. In the end, as always explained, these choices were made based on several factors and ultimately the decision of Chris Sailer.

Are you disappointed that you weren’t selected? There are two ways to go about it. You can either 1). Complain, quit and blame others for the decision, or 2). Continue to work harder than ever getting ready for Vegas XXXIV (May 11-12, 2019) and prove that you belong among the elite. Chris Sailer Kicking will select 20 more Kickers / Punters to attend the TOP 12 Camp at Vegas XXXIII. See you soon at the greatest camp on earth…. Vegas.

The Chris Sailer Award is presented, on an annual basis, to the best national high school placekicker for that given season.

The National Placekicker of the Year is named in honor of Chris Sailer for his outstanding high school career and nearly single handedly changing the world of kicking and punting as we know it.  Chris is now the most prominent kicking and punting  coach in World.  He has made the positions of kicking and punting a specialty and is revered around the country. Through his training and development of young kickers and punters, almost 100 high school and junior college kicking & punting specialists now receive full ride scholarships each year for their skill in that position.

Chris Sailer played for Notre Dame High School (1993-1995).  He was an All-American Placekicker and Punter.  In 1994 he set the then national record for most field goals in a season with 22. Of those 22 field goals, 7 came from beyond 50 yards including successful kicks from 58, 57, 57, 54, 52, 52 and 50 yards.  Chris Sailer was rewarded with a full ride scholarship to UCLA in 1995.  He went on to earn All-American Honors as both a placekicker and punter during his time at UCLA. He was a Lou Groza Award Finalist in 1997. He set multiple records while at UCLA including longest field goal of 56 yards.  He was signed by the San Francisco 49ers and went on to enjoy an 7 year professional career.
