It’s Almost Spring & You’re a 2017 Kicker/Punter, Now What?

This is easily one of the top questions I get from senior Kickers/Punters and/or their parents. Here are the answers:

  1. You should definitely be at Chris Sailer Kicking Camp to stay sharp, focused, continue to learn how to handle pressure and show absolute dominance.
  2. If you are uncommitted, read THIS and THIS and get yourself ready for VEGAS 30 for a final push at exposure.
  3. If you are committed, you need to push yourself even harder. Dominate every camp. Commit yourself to not being stagnant.

All seniors and their parents need to remember, while you still have some time left in high school, colleges and their football programs aren’t stopping to wait for you. They have several Kickers & Punters on their roster and they already hate you for even thinking you will attempt to take their jobs come the summer time. (Fast forward a few years and think about how you will feel being on the other side)

I have done this many times and  have seen countless senior Kickers & Punters coast through their senior year only to find a nice spot on the bench come fall. Coaches call me continuously asking how the Kickers & Punters that they recruited are doing. Needless to say, they are not happy when I tell them “Oh, I haven’t seen him since VEGAS XXIX”!

The senior Kickers & Punters that keep working and attending camps are the ones that start.  It’s like clockwork.

Never rest and never stop improving seniors. See you soon!

To be the best, train & compete with the best!

I’m A Senior, What Should I Do In November?

5 Easy Tips For The Class of 2017 To Get Ahead In Recruiting – November

1. Stop panicking.  We are still very early in the recruiting process.  Less that 5% of the class of 2017 (K/P) have made college commitments.  Less than 10% of the class of 2017 (K/P) have been offered any sort of college opportunity.  Note, there are many waves of recruiting.  Recruiting will last all the way through August when fall camps officially begin for the upcoming college football season.

2. Take unofficial visits as often as possible.  An unofficial visit simply mean that you have to pay for the visit yourself.   Getting on campus is the best way to show a college football program genuine interest.  Sending emails, making phone calls, direct messaging on social media, etc. simply isn’t enough anymore.  A coach will know that you have a real interest once you make the effort to get on campus.

3. Start to narrow down your search to universities and colleges that are realistic options.  This includes level of football (FBS, FCS, D2, D3, NAII, JC, etc.), level of academics, region of the country, etc.  Stop targeting D1 football programs if you are not a D1 recruit.  Stop targeting high academic institutions if you have a 2.0 GPA.  Find schools that will reciprocate interest in you and opportunities will follow.

READ THIS BLOG ON HOW SCHOOLS RECRUIT

4. Ask for an opportunity, not a scholarship.  Every college coach in America knows that you would like to be offered a scholarship.  When you ask for a scholarship, this turns them off.  You are basically limiting communication opportunity.  When you ask for an opportunity to be on the team, coaches will be receptive.  You are opening a door for communication.  The goal in recruiting is to create options.  Offers of any kind, create buzz, which create more options.  Scholarship vs. Preferred Walk On offers will take care of itself in the end.

5. Get ready for Vegas XXIX (January 13-15, 2017).  The biggest mistake made these days is thinking that recruiting for seniors is already over by this time.  In fact, it is the exact opposite.  90% of Kickers / Punters in this class will be recruited heavily during this time of year.  It will be feeding frenzy.  National Letter of Intent Day (NLI) is in early February.  Vegas takes place this time of year for this reason.  College coaches pay a tremendous amount of attention to the Vegas results and post Vegas rankings.  Scholarships offers and preferred walk on opportunities will be won this weekend in Vegas.

Why Vegas, Reason Number…..

Why Vegas, Reason Number…..

The Lou Groza Award was established in 1992 to recognize the top place kicker in college football each year.  In 1997, I was myself fortunate enough to be a part of the festivities.  As one of the three finalists I was invited to West Palm Beach, FL.  I witnessed first hand the professionalism surrounding the prestigious award.  I made it a goal, even then, to one day help other athletes experience what I was able to.  Fast forward six years and Vegas was created.

Vegas was created in 2003 to establish credible rating standards for high school kickers/punters. Vegas provided the ultimate exposure, which in turn created opportunity for thousands to follow.  Some of the goals/objectives that I had written down then were: exposure, national rankings, college opportunity, scholarships, Lou Groza Award winners, NFL Draftees, larger NFL contracts, etc.  Fast forward to 2016 and …… mission accomplished.  There is still a ways to go, but progress has been made each and every year thanks to Vegas.

Since 2003, six Vegas participants have gone on to win the Lou Groza Award.  Even more impressive, six of the past nine Lou Groza Award Winners were Vegas participants.  Take a look:

Dan Bailey

2007 – Thomas Weber (Arizona State)
2009 – Kai Forbath (UCLA)
2010 – Dan Bailey (Oklahoma State)
2011 – Randy Bullock (Texas A&M)
2014 – Brad Craddock (Maryland)
2015 – Ka’imi Fairbairn (UCLA)

Of course, the hard work doesn’t stop upon graduation from High School.  Chris Sailer Kicking continues to work with these and all athletes throughout college and on the NFL.  Just one more reason to attend Vegas XXIX January 14-15!  Register Here

George Triplett Wins It All in Pittsburgh!

The Chris Sailer Kicking Fall Camp Circuit is now in full swing.  The most recent camp took place this past Sunday in Pittsburgh, PA.  Specialists from several east coast states were in attendance to get instruction and compete.  The level of talent was strong in all age levels.  There was also a solid mix of Chris Sailer Kicking newcomers and veterans.  Take a look at the results….

img_1973Overall Camp Champion
George Triplett
(2018, WV) – The Chris Sailer Kicking veteran had an extremely impressive performance from start to finish.  He excels in all three areas of the game and proved it on this day.  He won a major field goal competition and also came out on top on kickoffs.  He has 50+ yard range on field goals, averages 65 yards on kickoffs with 3.75 hang time and consistently punts with a 40+ yard average and 4.4+ hang time.  George is going to be a fine college level player.

Field Goal Champion
Gavin Costello (2018, OH) – Gavin has only been kicking for 6 weeks.  After a few lessons with Chris Sailer Kicking instructor Drew Basil, he was ready to go in Pittsburgh.  He is a naturally gifted athlete with a very strong leg.  He nailed 6 consecutive field goals ranging from 30 to 53 yards to win the competition.  Gavin has only scratched the surface of what he is capable of.  The future is bright with continued hard work.

Punt Champion
Koby Keifer (2018, WV) – Koby was one of the most impressive overall performers on the day.  He is an excellent combo (K/P) prospect.  On this day he came out on top in the punting competition by consistently hitting balls 45+ yards with 4.4+ second hang time.  He was also strong on field goals, showing 50+ yard range and kickoffs, driving the ball deep into the end zone.  Look for Koby to compete with the best in his class this coming January in Las Vegas.

TOP 2018 Prospects
Justin Smith (2018, OH) – The longtime Chris Sailer Kicking specialist continues to improve at an impressive rate.  Coming off an excellent showing in Chicago last month, he backed it up with another strong performance in Pittsburgh.  He was a finalist in nearly every competition and could have easily won it.

Zach Sterr (2018, NJ) – Zach had perhaps the strongest leg at the entire camp.  He has attended several Chris Sailer Kicking camps and continues to improve each time we see him.  He shows D1 potential in all 3 areas (FG, KO & Punt).  Great things lie ahead for Zach with continued hard work.

Other 2018 Top prospects: Aidan Clemente & Owen Rozanc

Top 2019 Prospect: Zach Hoban & Keaton Hier

Top 2020 Prospects: Nicolas Basile, Blake Edwards & Casey Farrell

Join Chris Sailer Kicking at the following locations to be a part of it:  Seattle, WA (October 23), Los Angeles, CA (October 30), Charlotte NC (November 20), Dallas, TX (December 4), Phoenix, AZ (December 11), Atlanta, GA (December 18).  Then the big one, the Super Bowl for Kickers, Punters & Long Snappers, Vegas XXIX (January 14-15, 2017). Meet the “TOP 12” Class of 2017

In 2003, Chris Sailer Kicking established the biggest kicking, punting, and long snapping camp the world had ever seen, The National Kicking Competition.  The camp brought in the best of the best from across the nation to compete at one location.  The camp established credible recruiting rankings and evaluations for kickers, punters, and long snappers that college coaches across the country would use for years to come.  The camp, now simply known as VEGAS takes place in Las Vegas each year in January.
Every athlete comes with one major goal in common, making the prestigious “TOP 12”.  This is THE exposure list to be on for national exposure.  The twelve best underclassmen in the nation are identified for the Kicking/Punting positions.  The best of the best are then invited to the exclusive, invite only,“TOP 12” camp that following summer.  College coaches take notice, and scholarships are awarded.

To get an idea for what the “TOP 12” is all about, take a look at some of the very best over the years:  Ryan Succop (South Carolina & Tennessee Titans), Kai Forbath (UCLA, Lou Groza Award Winner, & New Orleans Saints), Dan Bailey (Oklahoma State, Lou Groza Award Winner & Dallas Cowboys), & Randy Bullock (Texas A&M, Lou Groza Award Winner, & New York Jets), Bryan Anger (CAL & Jacksonville Jaguars), Brad Nortman (Wisconsin & Carolina Panthers), Blair Walsh (Georgia & Minnesota Vikings), Justin Tucker (Texas, Baltimore Ravens & Super Bowl Champion), Jeff Locke (UCLA & Minnesota Vikings), Cody Parkey (Auburn, Philadelphia Eagles), Tress Way (Oklahoma & Washington Redskins), Ka’imi Fairbairn (UCLA, Lou Groza Award Winner & Houston Texans).  Just to name a few!
